Loopy Lou - Cártaí Beannachta Lámhdhéanta

Is bean chruthaitheach le fonn fiontraíochta as Áth Tí an Mheasaigh í Louise McHugh. Chuir sí tús lena gnó cártaí beannachta i mí Mhárta 2013. Ar dtús, thosaigh Louise ag déanamh cártaí mar chaitheamh aimsire sa bhaile ach thar na blianta nuair a thosaigh tuilleadh cairde ag lorg cártaí uaithi, d'aithin sí nideog sa mhargadh do chártaí lámhdhéanta agus saincheaptha. "Is breá liom bheith ag déanamh cártaí", deir Louise, "agus chonaic mé é seo mar dheis nár mhór dom a thapú".

Oibríonn Louise sa bhaile agus í ag tabhairt aire do cheathrar páistí chomh maith. Déanann sí cártaí beannachta do gach ócáid, cártaí saincheaptha go háirithe d'ócáidí speisialta ar nós bhreith linbh, bainiseacha, an chéad chomaoineach, srl. Ar na cártaí speisialta sin, cuireann sí sonraí pearsanta, mar shampla ar an gcárta linbh, cuireann sí an dáta breithe, an t-am a rugadh é agus meáchan an linbh. Dearann sí bosca speisialta do gach cárta mar rud breise a dhéanann cuimhneachán deas ar an ócáid.

Tá go leor ama agus airde i gceist le gach uile chárta. "Teastaíonn uaim go mbeidh uigeacht agus doimhneacht le feiceáil i ndearadh na gcártaí", deir Louise.

Tá Louise i gcónaí ag lorg smaointí nua agus réidh le rudaí nua a thriail ionas go seasfaidh a cártaí amach ó na cártaí cineálacha a bhíonn ar fáil i siopaí. I mí na Samhna 2013 rinne Gnó Mhaigh Eo teagmháil le Louise ag fiosrú an mbeadh suim aici cártaí Nollag a dhearadh i nGaeilge. Chonaic Louise an fiúntas a bhaineann leis agus an t-éileamh atá sa mhargadh do chártaí i nGaeilge atá lámhdhéanta agus anois tá sí ar tí cártaí do gach ócáid a aistriú. Tá sé soiléir go bhfuil meas mór ag Louise ar an nGaeilge agus tá sí ag iarraidh feabhas a chur ar a cuid Gaeilge féin. Le beirt pháistí ag freastal ar scoil, deir sí, go bhfuil sí ag fáil neart cleachtaidh idir obair bhaile agus aistriú na gcártaí.

Louise McHugh from Attymass, Co. Mayo is the creative entrepreneur behind Loopy Lou cards. Initially she started making cards for friends as a hobby but when the demand increased, she realised there was a niche in the market for customised handmade cards and a great business opportunity within the local market. "I love making cards", says Louise, "and I saw this as an opportunity to work at something I love, a life long goal of mine!"

Working from home Louise admits has been difficult at times balancing the business with her family of four young children. Louise makes greeting cards for all occasions, in particular, personalised greeting cards for special occasions such as the birth of a baby, weddings, First Holy Communion etc. With these cards she records personal information relating to the occasion, for example on the baby card, she includes the date, the time of arrival and the weight of the baby. Each of these cards are presented in a specially designed box which creates an extra special memento of the occasion.

"When I make a card I like it to reflect the time and effort that have gone into it, I love the card to have texture and depth to it. Initially there were times where I added so much to the card that it wouldn’t fit in the envelope, but I have learned that if I do get carried away I can make a box to present it in".

In November 2013, Gnó Mhaigh Eo contacted Louise to see if she was interested in designing Irish language Christmas Cards. Louise who has always valued the Irish language, was delighted with the opportunity. Louise immediately recognised the Irish language as another way to expand her greeting cards business providing her customers with a wider selection of cards to choose from that were uniquely Irish.
