Field and Stream

Lonnaithe ar Phríomhshráid Chaisleán an Bharraigh, is é Field and Stream ceann de na siopaí spóirt is mó atá ann. Tá sé dírithe ar an iascaireacht agus ar champáil, agus is le Pádraig Ó Cúinn é.  Le déanaí, cuireadh obair ealaíne nua ar an mballa, rud a bhí i gceist ag Pádraig le déanamh le fada an lá.  Feictear ainm an tsiopa agus an dáta a d'oscail sé as Gaeilge; "Amuigh Faoin Spéir. P. Ó Cúinn. Bun 1955".

Is féidir leat an Ghaeilge a fheiceáil ar chomharthaíocht eile sa siopa freisin.  Níl ach cúpla focal ag Pádraig, a d'fhoghlaim sé nuair a bhí sé ar scoil, ach baineann sé úsáid astu aon uair ar féidir leis.  De ghnáth, is féidir leat é a chloisteáil ag rá "Go raibh maith agat" leis na custaiméirí nuair atá sé ag tabhairt briseadh dóibh.  Tugann an chuid is mó dóibh freagra ar ais dó as Gaeilge chomh maith.

Field and Stream, located on Main St. Castlebar, is not only a fishing shop, but a camping, and overall sports shop, run by Pádraig Ó Cúinn.  Recently, new artwork has been made visible above the main entrance to the shop, something that Pádraig has always wished to do.  This new artwork proudly displays the shops name, and information as Gaeilge, reading; “Amuigh Faoin Spéir. P Ó Cúinn Bun 1955”.

The Irish language can also be clearly seen within the shop itself on his various signs.  Pádraig himself may only have the cúpla focal from his school days, but is always happy to use it when he can, and can often be heard saying “go raibh maith agat” to customers as he hands them their change, and finds that most people reply to him as Gaeilge if he does.
