Éalú Ionad Fóillíochta

Ionad Fóillíochta de chuid an Broadhaven Bay Hotel, le linn snámha, seomra allais, seomra gaile, tobán cuilithe agus spórtlann, a fosclaíodh in 2007 atá ann. Tugann ‘Éalú’ seans don phobal éalú ón saol leathúil. Tugadh ainm Gaeilge don ionad mar gheall go bhfuil sé lonnaithe i gceantar Gaeltachta agus go bhfuil siad ag cur seirbhíse ar fáil do phobal na Gaeltachta. Is breá leis na turasóirí a fhanann ins an óstán an t-ainm, cuireannn siad ceist faoi i gcónaí. Cothaíonn an branda Gaeilge íomhá ar leith dóibh, agus cuireann sé le féiniúlacht an ionaid féin.
Cé nach labhraíonn Michael Doocey, atá i gceannas ar Éalú, Gaeilge ró-mhinic, tuigeann sé an tábhacht a bhaineann léi. Tá comharthaí agus fógraí dátheangacha le feiceáil ar fud an ionaid, agus ceapann sé go bhfuil sé tábhachtach go bhfuil foireann aige le cumas seirbhís a chur ar fáil trí mheán na Gaeilge. Tá triúr Gaeilgeoirí líofa fostaithe ag Éalú, Sinéad Ní Oireachtaigh ón Eachléim, Conor Ó Murchú ó Inbhear agus Ciara Ruddy as Achadh Ghlaisín – agus bíonn neart Gaeilge le cloisteáil nuair a bhíonn an triúr acu ar dualgas le chéile!

Tá Sinéad agus Conor cáilithe mar theagascóirí snámha agus is féidir leo ceachtanna snámha a reachtáil trí mheán na Gaeilge.

Éalú, which opened in 2007, is the Leisure Centre incorporated into the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, and offers a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and fitness suite. Éalú offers the community an opportunity to escape everyday life. The centre was given an Irish name due to the fact that it’s situated in a Gaeltacht region and it serves a Gaeltacht community. Tourists who stay in the hotel love the name, and are always curious about it’s meaning. The Irish brand brings with it a certain distinction, and it helps the centre develop it’s own unique identity.
Despite the fact that Michael Doocey, who runs Éalú, doesn’t speak Irish very often himself, he understands the importance of the language. There are Irish signs and notices throughout the centre, and he considers it important that his staff can provide a service in Irish. There are three fluent Irish speakers working in Éalú: Sinéad Ní Oireachtaigh from Eachléim, Conor Ó Murchú from Inbhear and Ciara Ruddy from Achadh Ghlaisín, and there’s plenty of Irish to be heard in the centre when they’re on duty together!

Sinéad and Conor are also qualified swimming instructors and can teach classes through Irish for the schools and for individuals if they so wish.
