Coláiste UISCE

Bunaíodh Coláiste UISCE i 1992 mar ghnó beag chun eachtraí uisce a chur ar fáil don phobal trí mheán na Gaeilge. Anois tá na mílte ag freastal ar chúrsaí Gaeilge a bhíonn ar siúl i rith an tsamhraidh, i rith na Cásca, agus sa gheimhreadh chomh maith. Freastlíaonn said ar thurais scoile ó chuile chearn den tír, chomh maith le cúrsaí do na hollscoileanna. Bíonn cúrsaí "Splash!" ar siúl acu d’óige na háite, agus roinnt cúrsaí eile do dhaoine fásta um thráthnóna. Tá siad creidiúnaithe ag Cumann Seoltóireachta na hÉireann, agus bronnfar teastas ar gach duine a bhfreastlaíonn ar an gcúrsa. Is féidir cáilíocht uisce a fháil anseo trí mheán na Gaeilge, rud nach féidir a fháil ó aon áit eile.

Tá thart ar 22 duine fostaithe go lánaimseartha acu idir na daoine a oibríonn san oifig, sa gcistin, agus na glantóirí, agus bíonn thart ar chaoga duine breise fostaithe acu le linn an tsamhraidh. Tá Gaeilge acu uilig, daoine le Gaeilge líofa agus daoine nach bhfuil chomh líofa céanna, agus is as Iorras cuid mhaith acu. Suíomh lán-Ghaelach atá ann, agus déanann siad chuile iarracht cur leis an atmaisféar Gaeilge i gcónaí.

Bunaíodh an coláiste Gaeilge seo ar an gcoincheap gur féidir an Ghaeilge a mhúineadh trí mheán na n-eachtraí ar bhealach taitneamhach úrnua. Is í an Ghaeilge príomhtheanga an chomhlachta, an fhoireann uilig agus braitheann an gnó go mór uirthi.

Coláiste UISCE was founded in 1992 as a small business offering water based activities through Irish. Today, thousands attend their Irish courses which are run in the summer, Easter and also in the winter. They host school tours from across the country, and also provide courses for the universities. Splash! courses are organised to cater for the young people of the region, with other courses offered in the evening for adults. They are accredited by the Irish Sailing Association and everyone who attends one of their courses is presented with a certificate to bring home. You can also obtain a water qualification here through Irish, which is something unique to this centre.

There are 22 people employed here full-time including office, kitchen and cleaning staff, and approximately another fifty are employed during the summer season. Everyone here is competent in Irish with varying degrees of fluency, and many of them are from Erris.  The centre here is immersed in Irish, and they make every effort to add to the Irish atmosphere at any opportunity.

The Irish college was founded here on the precept that you could teach Irish in a new and enjoyable way through participation in a range of activities. Irish is the primary language of the company and of the employees and it is an integral part of the business.
